Our second emirate destination in the UAE was the capital, Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi sits off the mainland on a island in the Persian Gulf. Its focus on oil exports and commerce is reflected by the skyline's modern towers and shopping megacenters. Abu Dhabi is the second-most populous city of the UAE after Dubai.
Our visit to Abu Dhabi was amazing. First stop - Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Breathtaking does not do justice to this Mosque which features an immense Persian carpet, crystal chandeliers and capacity for 41,000 worshipers. Conservative clothing was required to be worn to visit the Mosque. Women were required to wear loose fitting clothes that covered their shoulders, arms and legs and a scarf to cover their head and neck. Men were required to wear clothes that covered their shoulders and knees. Those not appropriately dressed could be denied entry.
Below are numerous views of the Grand Mosque.
